Annual Dyslexia Report
In accordance with Senate Enrolled Act No. 217, all students in grades kindergarten through second grade are required to be screened for dyslexia beginning in the 2019-2020 school year. All students are screened within the first 90 days of the school year. Areas of strength and areas of concern that must be examined include phonological and phonemic awareness, sound symbol recognition, alphabet knowledge, decoding skills, rapid naming, and encoding skills.
Currently all students are screened utilizing the NWEA MAP Reading Fluency Assessment. If determined to be "at risk" or "at some risk" for learning characteristics related to dyslexia, a Level 1 Assessment will be administered. Level 1 Screeners include MA Rooney Foundation: Reading Foundations K-1 and the MA Rooney Foundation: MARF Phonics Screener 2-12.
Middlebury Community Schools provided reading intervention as needed through our intervention programs including Title 1 REACH and Reading Intervention, as well as through grade level Response to Intervention.
