Middlebury Community Schools is pleased to announce Jeremy Bechtel as the next Principal of Heritage Intermediate School, pending Board approval. Mr. Bechtel brings 16 years of experience in public education and a strong track record of instructional leadership, student success, and building positive school communities.
Mr. Bechtel began his career in public education as an elementary teacher after gaining valuable experience working with students in alternative education at The Crossing. During his years in the classroom, he taught first, second, and fourth grades, developing a strong foundation in elementary instruction and student learning.
He later transitioned into school leadership as an Elementary Academic Dean, where he helped lead curriculum, instruction, assessment, and school improvement initiatives. In 2022, he was named Assistant Principal at Woodland Elementary School, continuing to support instructional leadership, professional development, and a positive school culture. For the past three school years, Mr. Bechtel has served as Principal of Woodland Elementary School in Elkhart, where he has built strong relationships with students, staff, and families while fostering high levels of academic growth.
Mr. Bechtel holds a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from Indiana University South Bend and a master's degree in Educational Administration and Supervision from Ball State University. Those who have worked alongside Mr. Bechtel describe him as a collaborative, student-centered leader who is deeply committed to continuous improvement. He is highly respected for his approachable leadership style, genuine care for others, and unwavering commitment to supporting both students and staff. Jeremy and his wife, Heather, have three children.
