Middlebury Elementary School is located in the small, stable, rural community of Middlebury and serves students in grades kindergarten through third. The staff members are friendly, caring, and unusually dedicated to the students, parents, and community. School staff members are encouraged and supported in their efforts to enhance their professional development and education, which has resulted in above average student test scores and pupil attendance. The school's facilities meet or exceed current safety codes and include the use of security equipment and enforced safety policies. The classrooms, office and specialized areas employ technology equipment, which include a computer lab, Promethean boards and projectors in every classroom, netbooks available for student use, access to the Internet, and WIFI access points throughout the building.
The K-3 school curriculum is developed in a positive, friendly climate, and structured to follow the Indiana State Standards and the local district's recommendations. It includes classes in art, music, physical education, guidance, Title I services, Reading Recovery, Math-Their-Way and remediation. In addition to the regular education program, special education programs in mild disabilities and speech services are provided. Organized programs for high ability students are also available. Extra-curricular programs include Run the Halls, jump rope club, walking club, art club, mallet club, guitar club, music programs for first, second, and third grade students, and student leadership.
